
Central Texas Guitar Competition
The competition is open to all non-degreed classical guitarists regardless of age or nationality, provided they have no professional representation. The competition will be broken up into three categories, sorted by age group:
Division I : 6th through 9th
grade
Division II : 10th through 12th grade
Division III: Adult/Collegiate
There will be a Youth Performance Clinic for guitarists younger than Division I who wish to perform.
Division III is open to current undergraduate college students, as well as adults of any age with or without collegiate experience.
Prizes are as follows. Additional prizes will be announced as funds become available:
Division I:
1st prize - $150
2nd prize- $50
Division II:
1st prize - $300
2nd prize - $150
Division III:
1st prize - $500
2nd Prize: - $250
All finalists will also receive a full scholarship to the 2009 Workshop. (Workshop tuition only).
Competition Guidelines:

1. All competitors must be enrolled in the workshop and pay an
additional
$30 entrance fee for the competition to be admitted to the semi-final round.
2. Repertoire is entirely free choice and must be memorized.
3. The competition will consist of 2 rounds for each division, a semi-final round and a final round. The final round will consist of 2 finalists each in divisions I and II, and 4 finalists each in Divisions III and IV.
4. Time limits are as follows:
Divisions I and II : Semi-Final Round: 6 minutes
Final Round: 10 minutes.
Division III: Semi Final Round: 10 minutes
Final Round: 15 minutes.
Competitors will be stopped at the time limit with no penalty.
5. Competitors will be judged by a panel consisting of workshop faculty on the merits of Technique, Stage Presence, Musicianship, Difficulty of Repertoire, and Overall Performance.
6. The competition is intended as an opportunity for younger guitarists to have a positive experience early in their performing career. As such, the competition will not be open to graduate students or those with professional representation.
7. Music performed in the semi-final round may be repeated in the final round.
8. Performance times will be determined randomly for each division. Competitors will receive their performance time at registration.
9. Failure to appear at the appointed time will result in disqualification.
